The Hawai`i County Fire Department responded to a report of a shark bite in Puako around 4:30 p.m. on Sunday.
Authorities say a 70-year-old woman was reportedly snorkeling in ten-feet of water when she was bitten on the left ankle by an 8-foot shark.
The woman was able to get to shore on her own where an off duty ocean safety personnel provided bleeding control ahead of medic arrival.
Medics transported the woman to North Hawai`i Community Hospital in stable condition.
HFD’s Chopper 2 conducted a fly over and searched the coastline with negative findings.
