Pāpaʻikou Crash Victim Died of ‘Natural Causes’

The Hawai`i Police Department reports that the cause of death in a 63-year-old woman involved in a collision on Aug. 1 has been attributed to natural causes.

Jane Lawrence of Laupāhoehoe was pronounced dead following a single-vehicle crash that occurred on Highway 19 in the area of the 8 mile-marker in Pāpaʻikou.

Police officials say the results of an autopsy determined that she died of natural causes that were unrelated to the injuries sustained in the traffic crash.

As a result, this crash will not be counted as a traffic-related casualty.

The traffic fatality total for the calendar year 2020 remains at 12 compared to 13 at this time last year.
