The Hawai`i Police Department has arrested and charged a 29-year-old Keaʻau man with an array of drug and property crime offenses stemming from an incident that occurred Friday morning in Hilo.
Police identified the individual arrested and charged as Troy K. Canda-Raigumai.
At approximately 9:30 a.m. on Friday, South Hilo Patrol officers responded to the parking area at the intersection of Puainako Street extension and Komohana Street in Hilo for a report of a suspicious male in the area possibly breaking into vehicles.
Officers contacted Canda-Raigumai who was seated within a vehicle in the area. During the investigation, officers determined that he had broken into another vehicle and removed property that was observed in his own vehicle.
Canda-Raigumai was arrested and transported to the Hilo Police Station. His vehicle was recovered as evidence and towed to the police station.
Detectives with the Area I Criminal Investigation Section obtained a search warrant for Lee’s vehicle. The search of the vehicle yielded 5.35 grams of dried processed marijuana, 0.39 grams methamphetamine, 0.63 grams heroin, miscellaneous prescription pills, as well as stolen items from the victim’s vehicle.
After conferring with prosecutors, Canda-Raigumai was charged with Unauthorized Entry into a Motor Vehicle in the first-degree, Theft in the fourth-degree, Criminal Property Damage in the third-degree, attempted Theft in the second-degree, Habitual Property Crimes, three counts of Promotion of a Detrimental Drug in the third-degree, and Promotion of a Detrimental Drug in the third-degree.
His total bail set at $63,000.
Canda-Raigumai remains in police custody, pending his initial court appearance on Monday in Hilo District Court.
