Hawai`i County Fire Department crews responded to an apparent shark bite off the coast of Anaehoomalu Bay, also known as A-Bay, on Tuesday morning.
Crews arrived around 8:30 a.m. to find a 65-year-old woman who had been bitten on the inner portion of her upper thigh. The bite mark was approximately 12 inches in diameter, per HFD.
The woman, described as a visitor by authorities, was transported to North Hawai`i Community Hospital in stable condition.
HFD officials say the woman was several hundred yards offshore when the incident occurred and was brought onto shore via bystanders on a kayak.
The beaches in the vicinity are closed until further notice.
