A propane leak occurred near the Kea`au Transfer Station in Puna on Tuesday.
The Hawai`i County Fire Department arrived at an area along Highway 130 about 200 yards east of the transfer station at 9:35 a.m., where they found an unattended five gallon propane tank leaking from a hole at the top.
Highway 130 was shutdown in the Hilo bound direction as a HFD hazmat company conducted a controlled release of the propane. Other HFD crews remained on scene for fire suppression precautions.
HFD turned the scene over to the Hawai`i Police Department once the tank was empty.
Officials say the cause of incident is unknown and the road was reopened shortly after the incident.
