A 46-year-old man died on Thursday in what Hawai`i County Fire Department officials call a tree cutting accident.
HFD crews arrived at a Kailulani Street address in Hilo at 5:22 p.m., where they found the unidentified man unresponsive and suspended with cables approximately 30 feet above the ground.
According to witnesses at the scene, the victim cut a tree that accidentally struck him.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The scene was turned over to the Hawai`i Police Department for further investigation.
HFD has listed the cause of death as accidental.
A total of 15 HFD personnel responded to the incident.
