HFD Conducts Ocean Rescues in Response to Potential Drowning Call

The Hawai`i County Fire Department responded to a report of a possible drowning on Friday at the end of Ala Heiau Road in Hawaiian Paradise Park.

Units arrived on scene just after 1 p.m. to find a woman believed to be around 30-years-old out of the water with a bystander performing CPR. The woman was transported to Hilo Medical Center. No update on the woman’s condition was immediately available.

HFD crews also found two free divers who were in distress and unable to make it to shore.

Rescue swimmers were deployed from Chopper 1 and the divers were pulled from the water. Both divers decline medical treatment.

Officials high surf and a strong current were factors in the incident, per HFD.
