The Hawai`i County Fire Department responded to a two-story structure fire on Alenaio Lane in Hilo on Saturday morning that claimed the life of one individual.
Fire crews arrived to find the back portion of the plantation style home fully involved in flames. The fire spread to the front of the structure and impinging on neighboring homes.
Search efforts were reportedly delayed as a result of structure instability. Officials say once search efforts were possible they located one individual, who had deceased.
All other occupants of the home were reportedly accounted for.
HFD notes that the was deemed under control by 10:15 a.m. and out at 12 p.m.
A temporary roadblock was implemented as crews battled the blaze.
The cause of the fire has not been determined and the scene is still being investigated.
