Swimmer Rescued from South Point Landing

The Hawai`i County Fire Department responded to a swimmer in distress on Tuesday at South Point Landing.

Responding to a call just before 12 p.m., rescue crews arrived on scene to find a female in her 30’s in the care of bystanders laying on a rock shelf with no feeling to her legs.

HFD officials say the woman was reportedly jumping from the South Point cliff and had lost feeling after jumping.

Rescue crews climbed down the rocks to access and the woman and awaited Chopper 1.

The woman and a rescue swimmer were extricated by helicopter via Billy Pugh net to an awaiting emergency medical units.

She was transported to Kona Community Hospital via HFD helicopter, per HFD.
