Blaze Burns Hawaiian Beaches Dwelling

The Hawai`i County Fire Department responded to a structure fire on Hono Street in Hawaiian Beaches Wednesday night.

Arriving on scene at 10:35 p.m., HFD crews found a single story, single family post and pier dwelling with heavy smoke throughout the house exiting through eves, doorway and window openings.

Active burning was occurring in one bedroom. Fire personnel used attack lines to extinguish the fire which was deemed out of control by 10:45 p.m. and out at 11 p.m.

Most of the fire damage was contained to the single bedroom that was in flames and moderate smoke damage was reported throughout the house.

HFD officials say the dwelling was unoccupied at the time.

The scene was turned over to the fire inspector for further investigation.

A total of 26 emergency personnel responded to the scene, including 18 HFD firefighters and three volunteer firefighters.
