Fast moving lava from Fissure 20 crossed Pohoiki Road near Malama Ki Place on Friday.
The lava isolated approximately 40 homes in the area. Four people were evacuated via County of Hawai`i and National Guard helicopters.
People who are still in the area are being instructed by Hawai`i County Civil Defense to stay in a safe place and await further instructions.
Due to the volcanic activity, the following policies are in effect:
Residents from Isaac Hale Beach Park to Kalapana are advised to prepare for voluntary evacuation should Highway 137 become threatened.
For those evacuating, the Pahoa Community Center, Keaau Community Center, and Sure Foundation Church are open. Food will be provided and the shelters are pet friendly.
County officials say Highway 137 and 130 are open.
