The Hawai`i County Fire Department responded to Kamilo Beach on Friday afternoon after receiving calls about black smoke on the beach.
Fire officials say crews arrived on scene just after 1:30 p.m. where they found two rubbish fire burning ropes, nets and other ocean debris.
The fires were assessed and extinguished by helicopter utilizing the bambi bucket and ocean water. The ocean’s high tide eventually rose to the fire location and the fire was deemed out at 2:10 p.m.
HFD says the fire was set intentionally.
