A 75-year-old man was rescued from the cliffs fronting Paradise Drive in Hawaiian Paradise Park on Monday morning.
The Hawai`i County Fire Department reports they were summoned to the area by the Hawai`i Police Department to help search for the man along the shoreline at 11:39 a.m.
HFD ground units searched the area the man was last known to be, while Chopper 1 searched from the air.
The man was located under a cliff overhang.
He was extricated by a rescue swimmer and Chopper 1 to a nearby medic for treatment before being transported to Hilo Medical Center with trauma to his head.
HFD reports that the cliffs are 15 feet to 25 feet along the shoreline.
