Swimmer Goes Missing at Rainbow Falls

The Hawai`i County Fire Department is searching for a 20-year-old man who went missing while swimming in the pond below Rainbow Falls on Friday.

Rescue crews responded to the area at 5:53 p.m.

According to HFD officials, four people were reportedly swimming in the water when one of them became fatigued and went underwater without resurfacing.

HFD arrived to find the three other swimmers on shore, unharmed and in no distress.

Chopper 1 deployed rescue divers and searched the area for the missing swimmer with no findings.

The search was called off for the evening due to darkness and will resume on Saturday morning.
