The Hawai`i Police Department reports that prison escapees Lorrin Nakapalau and Matthew Alani were apprehended on North Kulani Road Saturday morning.
Both inmates are now in HPD custody.
Alani and Nakapalau were reported missing from a headcount at approximately 8:35 p.m. on Friday.
How the pair escaped is under investigation.

Department of Public Safety officials say that the Hawai`i Police Department was immediately notified.
The escape is under investigation.
Alani, 25, is reportedly 5-foot-6 and 220 pounds. He has brown hair, brown eyes, and a large tattoo across his neck.
Officials say Alani is serving time for Robbery 2. His next parole hearing is scheduled for June 2018.
Nakapalau, 39, is reportedly 6-feet-tall and 160 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes.
According to officials Nakapalau is serving time for Escape 2. His parole hearing is scheduled for June 2018.

Kulani Correctional Facility is located on the slope of Mauna Loa, approximately 20 miles east of Hilo. It is a work-camp type of facility that consists of dorm-style housing for minimum and community custody, sentenced male inmates who are nearing the end of their sentence and preparing for release. All inmates participate in education and/or substance abuse treatment programs.
