Visitor Suffers Head Injury After Losing Control of Bicycle

A 53-year-old visitor from San Francisco suffered a head injury Thursday afternoon after he crashed his mountain bike.

Hawai`i County Fire Department officials say that crews responded to Mana Road just afternoon noon. The incident occurred on a gravel road about three to four miles from Highway 19.

Prior to HFD’s arrival, fire dispatch reported that victim had gone unconscious and CPR was initiated by bystanders, which included an off-duty HPD personnel.

The man was reportedly biking with his spouse when he lost control and fell on the unpaved roadway. He was wearing a safety helmet.

Officials say he was transported to North Hawai`i Community Hospital in critical condition.

There was no update on the mans condition at the time of publication
