The Hawai`i County Fire Department responded to Honokane Nui Valley early Sunday morning after learning that two woman had been separated from their group as a result of rising waters.
HFD officials say that three hikers, one female and two males, continued to hike to Pololu Lookout where they made the 9-1-1 call.
Crews arrived on scene just before 2 a.m. and determined that the stranded hikers were safe and advised them to remain where they were until help could get to them.
Using Chopper 1, the pair was airlifted at first light and taken to the landing zone established at Pololu Lookout.
Neither hiker was injured.
