A swimmer was plucked out of Hilo Bay on Friday.
Just before 4 p.m., the Hawai`i County Fire Department responded to the area after receiving a call regarding a swimmer in distress.
The caller noted that the victim, a woman in her late 20’s, was last seen leaving the Wailoa River mouth and was heading towards a green channel marker about one mile off-shore.
According to officials, the called lost sight of the swimmer and called 9-1-1.
She was located via aircraft and extricated using a Billy Pugh.
Officials say the woman refused medical attention after being returned to shore.
