The Hawai`i County Fire Department is battling a “large brush fire” in the area of Ka`alu`alu, according to Hawai`i County Civil Defense.
County officials indicate that the fire is burning near South Point in Ka`u and that no roads are currently closed.
Motorists the area should be aware of emergency vehicles and note that smoke could impact the ability to see roadways clearly and the air quality.
Civil Defense notes that people should stay away from the active fire area.
Closure may take place without notice as the fire is battled.
