Highway remains closed due to an earlier traffic collision involving a fuel truck/tanker. The road closure will remain in effect for at least 24 hours due to leaking fuel.

The Hawai`i Police Department reports that Highway 19 will remain closed in the area of an earlier traffic accident near Honomu through Sunday morning.
Officials say that hazardous materials are present at the scene.
UPDATE, 3:30 p.m.
All traffic is now rerouted via an alternate route along Old Mamalahoa Highway, per Hawai`i County Civil Defense.

The Hawaii Police Department reported Saturday afternoon that Highway 19 is closed at mile marker 13, near Honomu.
Police say the closure is a result of a traffic accident in the area.
Hilo bound traffic is now rerouted via Old Mamalahoa Highway.
Hamakua bound traffic (beyond Honomu) is being turned around to use Saddle Road.
Police anticipate the closure to last for an extended period.
