Man Airlifted After Falling into Wailuku River

Search and rescue efforts by the Hawai`i County Fire Department saved the life of a man at Boiling Pots in Hilo on Sunday.

HFD responded just after 3 p.m. where they found a 44-year-old male victim who had slipped, struck his head and fallen into the Wailuku River.

Using a helicopter, HFD was able to deploy rescue divers to locate the victim and airlift him to the landing zone.

The man was transported to Hilo Medical Center. His current condition is unknown.

A total of twelves HFD personnel responded in the incident.
