The Hawai`i County Fire Department responded to a brush fire Wednesday afternoon at the rear end of Black Sand Beach.
According to HFD officials, units arrived on scene at 12:47 p.m. to find a brush fire burning on Iolani Street spreading both mauka and makai and being driven by intermittent trade guests.
The fire was located on vacant lots bordering structures on all sides.
Firefighters defended mauka structures along Cook Street as well as the makai structures along Kapiolani Street with no visibility.
Residents in the nearby area were evacuated.
The fire was deemed under control by 1:17 p.m. Night watch personnel were called to the scene to monitor and suppress hot spots and flare up.
No losses or injuries were reported.
