Firefighters with the Hawai`i County Fire Department responded to a structure fire in Volcano on Monday.
HFD arrived at the scene on Amaumau Road at about 5:46 p.m. where they found a 2,800 square foot structure fully engulfed in flames.
An attached garage that had a vehicle inside was not actively burning but smoke and heat damage were noted.
The fire was determined to be under control by 6:30 p.m. Night watch was set-up with two personnel to standby and watch as the fire burned itself out.
Salvage operations were unable to be completed Sunday night due to a roof collapse and smoldering fire underneath.
No one was home at the time of the incident.
HFD determined the structure and vehicle a total loss. The estimated loss is valued at $250,000.
The fire is currently under investigation by an HFD investigator and the Hawai`i Police Department.
