A man died Friday morning in the waters off shore of Kumukahi Lighthouse.
The Hawai`i County Fire Department says they responded to a report of an opihi picker being swept into the ocean by a wave a little before 10 a.m.
Two bystanders assisted the victim away from rocky shoreline and were met by lifeguard on jet skis, according to HPD.
The victim, who was reportedly in his 60’s, was then pulled from the water by HFD rescue personnel via a Billy Pugh net and transported to an awaiting medic at the lighthouse.
HFD says the victim showed no signs of life and was released to the Hawai`i Police Department.
