The Hawai`i County Fire Department responded to a three vehicle car crash Wednesday morning in the 36 mile marker area of Mamalahoa Highway in Paauilo.
HFD responded to a 9:05 alarm to find a head-on collision involving a 4 door sedan, a dump truck towing a flatbed trailer, and a sports utility vehicle.
Authorities say the sedan crossed the centerline, colliding with the dump truck. The occupant of the sedan was ejected and pinned under the flatbed trailer.
HFD says the individual died at the scene.
The driver of the dump truck was treated at the scene and released.
Two occupants of the SUV did not suffer injuries. The vehicle was behind the sedan and had minor damage.
Traffic was re-routed through Hauola and Pohakea Road.
