The Hawai`i County Fire Department tended to a skydiver Sunday morning following a “hard landing” in a vacant lot mauka of Upolu Airport.
HFD officials say the rescue happened just after 11 a.m. when an apparent parachute malfunction led to a high speed crash landing.
A 41-year-old male was located lying on the ground with multiple bystanders tending to him when fire fighters arrived on scene. The man was apparently suffering from multiple serious injuries and was ultimately loaded onto HFD Chopper 2 and transported to North Hawai`i Community Hospital in critical condition.
HFD reports that the man was flying solo.
